Case Study

Cocuun, Louth

We were contracted by Cocuun to undertake the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on multiple premises along one street as part of a retrofit program (SHDF) delivered for Platform Housing Group. After receiving the addresses and contact details, we conducted tailored designs for each property, obtained the necessary DNO permissions, and coordinated installations alongside other trades. The project was completed within four weeks, including the submission of all handover documentation and the removal of access equipment.

Products used

DMECG Solar Panels

We have used these panels for many years without issues and due to their clean, minimal aesthetic. We personally recommend them to our clients.

A DMECG solar panel system offers numerous advantages, including high efficiency and reliability in energy generation. Its advanced technology ensures optimal performance, maximising the return on investment through increased energy production.

The system's durability and low maintenance requirements reduce long-term operational costs, while its eco-friendly nature contributes to significant reductions in carbon emissions.

Key challenge(s)

Our highly skilled team identified a number of key challenges to this project during our initial survey and project scope.

  • Tennent liason was often challenging. Making bookings with tenants was more difficult than anticipated, with availbility always changing. Unfortunetly, tennents had an overall nagative outlook towards the housing association and the work we were there to complete.
  • Access restraints and additional consideration required due to a number of tennants with disabilities and individual needs.
  • Delivery of materials proved challenging due to the narrow street.
  • Some tennants were vulnrable and needed extra care and consideration from site staff and supervisors.
How we overcame the challenge(s)

Whilst planning the project, our team impliemented the following solutions which allowed the project to be delivered and completed on time, with minimal disruption and additional expense.

  • We developed a dedicated team focused on tenant liaison, ensuring exceptional care and consideration throughout the program. A flexible schedule allowed us to maintain a constant on-site presence, enabling us to respond promptly to any cancellations. Our site supervisor fostered strong relationships with tenants, allowing for efficient rebooking of properties on short notice when others were cancelled or postponed.
  • We adapted the program to accommodate properties with constraints related to wheelchair access and parking issues. For the four affected properties, we minimized the duration of scaffolding installations. Scaffolding was erected in the morning, followed by the rapid fitting and electrical testing of the panels, and then dismantled in the afternoon. This approach ensured minimal disruption throughout the project.
  • We rented an AV storage unit and had it delivered to land provided by the local council, conveniently located nearby. Major deliveries were received and stored at this location, and only the necessary materials were transported to the site daily by van.
  • Taking additional consideration the vulnrable tennents, we prioritiaed liaison and required all relevant staff to undertake mental health training. Effective management was achieved through strong communication with the customer, tenants, and the housing association.
